About Letrozole Tablets

Letrozole is an estrogen inhibitor that one can only consume after getting a prescription. It is mostly used to treat hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in females who have been through menopause.

It is often used to trigger ovulation in females struggling to get pregnant, especially those with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

This medication decreases the level of estrogen in the body. This helps stop estrogen-dependent cancers from growing. It also speeds up ovulation during fertility treatments. Letrozole comes in tablet form that is taken by mouth. The most common amount is 2.5 mg.

Uses of Letrozole Tablets

Medicinal Benefits

Letrozole greatly reduces estrogen production. This helps slow the growth of hormone-sensitive tumors in breast cancer treatment.

It induces ovulation in women experiencing challenges in conception due to hormonal abnormalities.

Employed as an adjunct therapy to diminish the likelihood of breast cancer recurrence.

Letrozole is different from other ovulation-inducing drugs. It doesn’t directly block estrogen in the uterus. Because of this, it is a good choice for fertility treatments.

How Does It Work?

Letrozole works by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme. This enzyme converts androgens into estrogens. By blocking this process, letrozole achieves its therapeutic effect.

As a result of the drug’s ability to inhibit this conversion, the levels of estrogen in the body are dramatically reduced.

The decrease in estrogen also has the effect of slowing down the proliferation of breast cancer cells that are dependent on estrogen.

Lower estrogen levels from fertility treatments make the brain release more follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). This increase helps promote ovulation.
