Product Overview
Omeprazole is an active pharmaceutical ingredient used to design drugs that lower stomach acid. Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) drug type. PPIs work by blocking the enzyme secreted in the lining of the stomach, which secretes acid. Blocking the enzyme lessens acid production and tends to provide a kind of relief from acidity and heartburn.
Being an API, Omeprazole is neither a finished pharmaceutical product nor the raw material of choice used to formulate tablets and capsules by pharma companies. It is pale cream-white or white powder. It has limited solubility in water-type solvents but is very soluble in alcohol-type solvents such as methanol or ethanol. The product is acid-sensitive, and handling and storage conditions are to be maintained in good condition to prevent degradation.
Therapeutic Applications
Omeprazole is extensively utilized in the manufacture of drugs for acid-induced stomach and intestinal conditions. The main uses are:
Specification Parameters
Packaging & Storage
Omeprazole API is packed in tight HDPE or fibre drums lined with two polyethylene bags for safeguarding. The majority of pack sizes that are available are 1 kg, 5 kg, 10 kg, and 25 kg.
It must be stored in a cool, dry, dark place. It must be stored away from water and acid. The warehouse temperature would normally range from 15 °C to 25 °C and would have low humidity. All the drums tend to be properly marked with a manufacturing date, batch number, expiry date, and storage instructions. These conditions, if followed, ensure full stability during transportation and use.
